Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
