Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he loved playing various card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming really competitive in these card games while competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York City to play some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were rough as he would play many hours and don’t win most times. He earned some additional money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and focus attention even more on the game.
The actual advancement in his skills began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best gamblers would often challenge one another. He was able to access a number of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his strategic thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of NL Texas Holdem.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a superb student of the game as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker arena ever. He headed to Sin City in 1993 and participated in money games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
