Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he enjoyed participating in numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming really competitive in these card games while playing his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little while and relocated to New York to participate in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were tough as he would play many hours and lost a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by being an assistant for the poker players. He believed he could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more rest and focus attention more on poker.
The actual improvement in his skills happened when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would often play against one another. Howard had access into a number of the greatest players in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking skills. He used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker arena has ever seen. He headed to Vegas in 1993 and competed in money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
