Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he enjoyed betting on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting really aggressive in these card games while playing his father. He made some additional cash by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and focus even more on poker.
The actual improvement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would regularly compete against each other. He had access into some of the foremost minds in chess. Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. He told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker arena today. He relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
