Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in popularity so quickly.
Omaha hi-low starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A round of wagering ensues where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few players can get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the complete pot.
It may seem complicated initially, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough.
